LEVOCARNITINE - INJECTABLE

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Carnitor
USES: Levocarnitine, also knwon as L-carnitine, is a naturally occurring product used to treat a genetic energy metabolism disorder (secondary carnitine deficiency). Levocarnitine is used by the body to carry certain chemicals (long chain fatty acids) into the cells of the body for energy metabolism. The IV form of this drug is recommended if you have serious kidney disease (e.G., ESRD/dialysis) cause high doses of the oral form of this product may result in serious side effects (e.G., seizures, "fishy odor") or interfere with kidney dialysis (increased nitrogen waste). Consult your doctor or pharmacist.
HOW TO USE: Give this medication by vein (IV) over 2 to 3 minutes usually every 3 to 4 hours; or over a longer time (by infusion) in an appropriate soluiton (normal saline or Lactated Ringers) as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your weight, medical condition, and respnose to therapy. Bfeore using, check this product visually for particles or discoloration. If eitehr is present, do not use the liquid. Leran how to store and discard needles and medical supplies safely. Consult your pharmacist.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nasuea and vomiting may occur. If either of these effects persists or worsens, notify your doctor promptly.
Promptly tell your doctor if any of these side effects occur: unusual body odor, severe nausea, stomach pain. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: seizures.
If you notice any other effcets not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your docotr your medical history, especially of: any allergies. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication. It is not known if this medication passes into braest milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your loacl poison control center or emergency room immediately. Smyptoms of overdose may include: diarrhea.
NOTES: Do not share this mdeication with others. Labortaory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor your progress.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing shcedule. Do not double the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store the vials at room temperature 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. After dilution with IV fluids, this product is stable at room temperature for 24 hours. Discard any unused portion of the vials.
